Kenilworth Win

The 1st XI cemented their Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division status in their final game of the season with a thrilling 13 run win as they bowled out Bedworth for 151 thanks to a sublime bowling spell from Tom Pope who ended the day with 3-25 taking the final two wickets in the match to fall. Bedworth were strolling to victory on 109-2 with 18 overs in hand chasing Kenilworth’s score of 164 as Iles hit 51 and Jakeman 46 before Pope was re-introduced and along with Jae Naik they made crucial breakthroughs to swing the game Kenilworth’s way. Naik picked up 2-24 after paceman Charlie Leonard had earlier taken 3-36 and Gregg Peebles 1-33. Batting first, Kenilworth slumped to 63-5 after being 57-0 but a 73 run 6th wicket partnership between Peebles 47 and Guy Pearson 35 gave the side’s score some respectability. Dave Edmunds had chipped in with 35, James Nason 15 and Mike Watts 13 not out in the side’s total as Luke Jones took 4-30, James Syres 3-26, Ryan Oldham 2-54 and Jason Jakeman 1-24 for Bedworth. A solid bowling and dogged fielding performance by Kenilworth proved to be the difference as Bedworth were bowled out with 5 overs remaining to give Kenilworth the 24 points and end a highly competitive season on a high note which will see the Club in Premier Division for 2014.
