1sts undone at leaders Barby

1st XI v. Barby

On Saturday 23rd July, Kenilworth travelled to leaders Barby, looking for their fourth Warwickshire Cricket League Division One win on the bounce.

Barby were asked to bat first, Kenilworth struck an early blow, the home side reduced to 4 for 1, but recovered, as opener Wynn- Evans hitting 59 and Gleghorn 55, as raced to 129 for 3, spinner Ed Ruswa went on to take five wickets, but he was expensive with 5 for 84 off 12 overs, wickets too for skipper Chris Prophet with 1 for 36, Matt Dargan 1 for 37 and Paul Luke 1 for 71, but the home side found the boundary on too many occasions, finishing on a very decent 282 for 9 off their 50 overs.

Kenilworth started their reply with a solid partnership between the prolific Guy Pearson 28 and Chris Prophet 26, the pair putting on 50 for the first wicket. But the first wicket sparked a collapse, going from 50 for 0 to 63 to 5 then 80 for 8, Steve Rhodes with 18 the only other score of note, as the visitors slumped to 104 all out in only 24 overs. Wynn-Evans had a fine match, taking 4 for 21 and Scott with 4 for 26 doing the damage, Kenilworth’s winning streak came to an abrupt end, losing by a huge 178 runs, taking four points.
