212 runs is not enough

1st XI v. Rugby

On Saturday 8th August, Kenilworth’s First team looked to make it back to back wins in the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division league as they played host to Rugby.

Kenilworth batted first, opener Chris Prophet with 43 and a fine stand of 89 for the fifth wicket between Neil Goodman and Jorjeet Singh, both hitting fine fifty’s, Goodman with 52 (5 x 4, 1 x 6) and Singh with 56 (6 x 4) as Kenilworth made a respectable 212 for 6 from their 50 overs, Ewer with 3 for 52 for Rugby.

Rugby’s reply was kept in check by Jake Sunderland with 2 for 48 and spinner Ed Ruswa with 2 for 43, whilst Liam Newton took 1 for 24 as Rugby slipped to 104 for 5, but an unbroken stand of 111 between Ewer 72 not out and Edwards 75 not out won it for Rugby with eleven overs to spare, finishing on 215 for 5 to win by five wickets.

The side are third bottom but just out of the two relegation spots, so it is all to play for in the remaining weeks to maintain their Premier Division status.
