Weather prevents probable victory

1st XI v. Barby

Rain ruined the chance of the Kenilworth’s first League victory of the season in their Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 against table toppers, Barby and had to settle for a draw.

Kenilworth batted first and openers Guy Pearson 33 and Mike Watts 26 put on 41 for the first wicket. Neil Goodman then entered the fray and took control with the bat to smash a magnificent century as he made 105 hitting 8 x 4’s and 7 x 6’s in the process. Kenilworth  reached 227-9 off their allocated 50 overs. D. Scott took 3-31, C. Scott 3-50 and Watson 2-26 for Barby.

In reply, in declining weather conditions, Barby struggled to 136-7 in 29 overs with Gleghorn 81 not out holding their innings together, with Edom 18 the next highest score.

The Umpires brought an end to the game with 21 overs left due to the weather. Frustratingly, that saw Barby narrowly ahead of the required run rate to ensure they were awarded the winning draw albeit with only 3 wickets remaining after Kenilworth’s  excellent all round efforts.

Kenilworth’s pacy opener Matt Dargan produced his best bowling performance of the season for the side as he took 4-35 off his 12 overs, 5 of which were maidens whilst Gregg Peebles chipped in with 2-31 and Steve Rhodes 1-28.
