More woe for the Firsts

1st XI v. Weoley Hill

Kenilworth travelled to Weoley Hill for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One fixture on Saturday 10th June and probably wished they hadn’t.

Home side Weoley Hill batted first, Homer was in fine form for the hosts, as he went on to smash a hard hitting 84. He was backed up by number five Graham who made 48 and Garghan with 25 as Weoley Hill finished their innings on a decent 265 for 7 from their fifty overs.

Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Jorjeet Singh with a very good 3 for 39 from twelve overs, Dave Edmunds 1 for 49, whilst youngsters Freddie Davies took 2 for 55 from twelve overs and Jono Sparks 1 for 63.

Kenilworth made a disastrous start in their reply, losing the first wicket the score at only 2 on the board and slumped to 21 for 3 which soon became 49 for 6 in only the thirteenth over. Wickets continued to fall as the Kenilworth side capitulated from 60 for 7 to 60 all out soon after in 21 overs. Kenilworth had had no answer to the Weoley Hill bowling, with Chadwick taking an unbelievable 5 for 7 and Donovan 3 for 7, together blowing the visitors batting apart.

Only opener Phil Edmonds with 21 and Dave Edmunds with 23 gave the side any glimmer of hope and showed any sign of resistance scoring 44 out of their side’s poor total of 60.

The side have now played eight, lost eight so far and the search goes on for a better and more competitive performance.
