At last the sun shines on the 1st XI side

1st. XI v. Bronze

On Saturday 17th June, the 1st. XI  were finally rewarded for their efforts when they headed to Bronze CC for their Warwickshire Cricket League  Division One fixture as they achieved their first win of the season with a fine team performance after their dreadful start to the League season.

Bronze won the toss and decided to bat first on a steaming hot summer day putting the Kenilworth players in the field and sun. Opening bowler Jono Sparks (1 for 8) made an early breakthrough for the visitors but Coley with 39 and number five Freeman with 41 began to get their side back on track. However, the Kenilworth bowlers kept chipping away and were rewarded for their efforts in the field on a hot day. After Coley and Freeman were dismissed, Bronze were struggling at 107 for 7 until a late cameo of 55 not out from number nine Foster got his side to a total of 187 all out in the 48th over. Wickets were shared all around, Darius Potten-Ravenshad with 3 for 48, young Freddie Davies 2 for 15, Ed Ruswa 1 for 15, Matt Casey 1 for 41 and Chris Prophet 1 for 39.

Kenilworth’s opening pair Pete Magafas and Adie Sellar put on 51 for the first wicket, as the side made a strong start in their reply. Sellar was first out for 18, and Magafas fell just short of a deserved fifty, making a fine 45. There were further useful partnerships that enabled Kenilworth to edge closer to their target. Chris Prophet with 33, 21 from Tom Booker, 15 from Henry Curran but it was Darius Potten-Ravenshad who kept his nerve with 32 not out and it was fitting he went on to hit the winning runs, Kenilworth finishing on 188 for 7 with over five overs to spare. Wood with 3 for 32 and Freeman 2 for 42 were the pick of the Bronze bowling.

Kenilworth finally getting their first win of the season, collecting the full 24 points for a fine team performance.

Bronze 187-10 Kenilworth 188-7.

WELL DONE LADS!
