Edmunds & Booker guide the side to victory

1st. XI v. Moseley Ashfield

 

Kenilworth hosted high flying Moseley Ashfield on Saturday 24th June for their Warwickshire Division One fixture, looking for back to back wins.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first, opening bat Abdullah making 34 and number 4 Hussain also with 34 kept the scoreboard ticking over, but seamer Steve Rhodes bowled impressively, he removed four of the top six, his twelve overs rewarded with excellent figures of 4 for 35. Young seamer Freddie Davies continued his wicket taking in the first team with 1 for 45 from seven overs and there were wickets too for spinners Jorjeet Singh with an impressive 2 for 33 from twelve quality overs and Chris Prophet 1 for 23. Pervaiz top scoring for Moseley Ashfield with 42, as visitors finished on 219 for 8 from their fifty overs.
 
Kenilworth lost an early wicket, as Aussie Pete Magafas was dismissed for 10 but Henry Curran with 17 helped Adie Sellar add 52 for the second wicket, Sellar making 33. However, the side then slipped from 67 for 1 to 67 for 3. Chris Prophet (15) together with Dave Edmunds added 41 for the fourth wicket, When Prophet was out, Kenilworth’s innings was in the balance at 108 for 4, but Edmunds was joined by keeper batsman Tom Booker, the pair finding the boundary on regular occasions and started to take the game away from the visitors, Booker finished on a fine 46 not out, whilst Dave Edmunds ended the day agonisingly short of a deserved hundred as he finished on 96 not out, his innings containing 17 boundary fours but victory was more important.
 
Kenilworth finishing on 220 for 4, winning the game by four wickets and five overs to spare, whilst the wickets to fall were  shared between four bowlers for Ashfield.
 
Kenilworth recorded fine back to back wins and collected the maximum 24 points for their efforts.
