No joy for the 1sts at Highway

1st. XI v. Highway Spartans

On Saturday 19th May, Kenilworth made the short trip to play Highway Spartans, looking for back to back wins in Warwickshire Cricket League Division One.

Highway won the toss and chose to bat first, opener Ivory got his side off to a solid start, making 34, at the fall of the first wicket, lvory was joined by Abbey who made a brisk 40. Highway maintained a decent flow to their innings, built around a solid 57 not out from Hallat, batting at number five. Highway finishing on a competitive 243 for 8 from their fifty over allocation. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were, spinners Jorjeet Singh with 3 for 32 from ten tidy overs, Henry Curran 2 for 42 from ten overs and seamers Steve Rhodes with 2 for 61 off ten overs and Freddie Davies 1 for 32 off seven overs, Rhodes taking two catches, Tom Booker a catch and a stumping.

After the tea interval, openers Dave Edmunds and Pete Magafas went about the task of chasing down the target, the pair put on 32 for the first wicket, before Edmunds was dismissed for 17, Henry Curran joined skipper Magafas, but Curran fell for 11, Magafas was to top score for the visitors with 31, as wickets began to fall, home spinner McCarthy wreaking havoc, taking 5 for just 15 in eight overs and Bains with 4 for 42 doing the damage, as Kenilworth subsided to be all out for just 110 inside 27 overs. Tom Booker with 16, Jono Sparks 12 and Jorjeet Singh with 10 the only other double figure scores, as Kenilworth crumbled in the sunshine.

Highway Spartans the winners by a huge 133 runs, Kenilworth taking three points for their efforts.
