1st XI v. RMCC

Kenilworth were agonizingly bowled out on the last ball of the match to lose their Warwickshire Cricket League Division 7 match by just one run in a pulsating finish on Bank Holiday Monday.

RMCC had earlier posted 174-9 off their 50 overs which had been an unlikely score as they teetered on the edge at 78-8 but thanks to an unbroken 96 run 9th wicket partnership between number two, Asklaque, who made an unbeaten 67 and number 10, Hayat, who posted 39 not out they gave RMCC a glimmer of hope in this win/lose match. Kenilworth’s bowlers unable to remove the pair as they picked up other wickets. Ian Baker took 3-35, Darius Potten-Ravenshead 3-30, Jorjeet Singh 2-32 and Steve Rhodes 1-26.

In reply, Kenilworth’s Dave Edmunds opened and posted a solid 35 as he shared in a 4th. Wicket partnership of 41 runs with Dan Horner, 12. Young Jono Sparks made 19. Sadly the mid order wobbled to 101-7 until Ben Whidbourne and number 9 Rhodes came together putting on 40 for the 8th. wicket before Whidbourne departed for a fine 36 and it was left to Rhodes to try to single handedly win the game. He came so close with his valiant and resilient efforts making 34 only to be cruelly caught a short third man on the last ball of the match after he and Ian Baker had put on 23 for the last wicket as the side were bowled out for 173. Usman had taken 3-23, Khan 2-38 whilst RMCC’s heroes with the bat Hayat and Asklaque took 2-19 and 3-38 respectively.
