Debutant Sunny sees side home

1st XI v. RMCC

On Saturday 2nd June, Kenilworth’s first team travelled to RMCC for their Warwickshire  Cricket League Division One fixture.

Kenilworth won the toss and asked RMCC to bat first. Muhammed Nayeem and Ian Baker opened up for visitors Kenilworth, both bowlers getting early wickets, as the home side were in trouble at 35 for 3. RMCC continued to struggle against the visitors seam bowler’s, only Haque, who batted at three, who made 46 made. With the introduction of spin from both ends, Jorjeet Singh and Darius Potten-Ravenshad soon got amongst the wickets, as the home side were all out for 153 in the fiftieth over. Wickets were shared between the six bowlers used, Jorjeet Singh the star with 4 for 41 from twelve overs, Ian Baker with 2 for 17 from ten overs, Potten-Ravenshad 2 for 29 from eight overs and 2 for 41 for debutant Nayeem off 11.5 tidy overs.

After the tea interval, the Kenilworth opening pair of Dave Edmunds and Adie Sellar looked to make a positive start to their sides reply, both players looked comfortable against the RMCC bowling, putting on 47 for the first wicket, before Edmunds was dismissed for 25, debutant Sunny Ahmed joined Sellar, but Sellar fell with the score on 53, Sellar making 12. Ahmed started to make light of the home sides bowling, hitting thee big sixes, now batting with Henry Curran, the pair adding 41, before Curran was out for 9, Kenilworth now 94 for 3.

Skipper Pete Magafas joined Ahmed, as Kenilworth looked to reach their target, Ahmed was in fine form, finding the boundary boards six times, as the visitors got the required runs in the 38th over, Ahmed making a fine 66 not out on his debut, his innings including 6 x 4 and 3 x 6, skipper Magafas unbeaten on 23, Kenilworth finishing on 154 for 3 to win by seven wickets.
