Sunny and Henry see side home for 3rd win after spinners strike

1st. XI v. Moseley Ashfield

 

On Saturday 16th June, Kenilworth’s first team hosted Moseley Ashfield for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One fixture.

Kenilworth invited the visitors to bat first, and Steve Rhodes soon had the visitors one down, clean bowling Ward for 2, the visitors then began to dig in, opener Thomas and number three Jeffries put on a stand of 48, before both fell in quick succession, Thomas for 27 and Jeffries for 22, Pemberton made 14 and Qumor 36, but Ashfield struggled after they were out. The visitors unable to bat their fifty overs, all out for just 134 in the 41st over. Along with the wicket from Rhodes (1 for 28 from 7 overs), it was the spinning duo of Jorjeet Singh and Darius Potten Ravenshad who did all the damage, both bowlers taking four wickets each, Singh having outstanding figures of 4 for 19 from 8.1 overs and Potten Ravenshad with 4 for 31 from 12 tidy overs, two catches for Chris Prophet and a run from Adie Sellar, Kenilworth enjoyed a great day in the field.

Kenilworth had a terrible start in reply, losing Sellar without scoring, 0 for 1. When Chris Prophet fell for 5 Kenilworth were I trouble at 18 for 2, Sunny Ahmed and Tom Booker took the score to 44, before Booker fell for 10, the home sides innings in the balance at 44 for 3. Two more home wickets fell, Kenilworth now 71 for 5, but Ahmed was still at the crease, and was joined by Henry Curran, the adding a valuable partnership of 49 for the 6th wicket, Sunny Ahmed dismissed for a superb innings of 70, his innings having 8 x 4 and 2 x 6. That partnership almost getting the home side to victory at 120 for 6, one more wicket for the visitors, but Curran with a fine 31 not out saw his side home on 138 for 7 in the 37th over.

Kenilworth the winners by three wickets on a day that the Club hosted its Old Players’ Reunion and brought much added celebrations all round.

Jeffries with 4 for 40 from ten overs and Carey taking 2 for 41 off eleven the pick of the Ashfield bowling.
Kenilworth take 20 points for their third win in a row.
