The Prophet is Divine!! ……….(with bat and ball)

1st. XI v. Fillongley

WIN !!

On Saturday 4th August, Kenilworth’s first team hosted Fillongley for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One fixture.

Kenilworth batted first, with openers Dave Edmunds and Chris Prophet soon had the scoreboard moving quickly, the pair rattled up an opening partnership of 62 in eight overs when Edmunds fell for 29. Two more quick wickets were taken by the visitors to leave Kenilworth at 85 for 3. Tom Booker joined Prophet, the pair added 52 together, Booker falling for 26. Fillongley struck twice more, the home side now 142 for 6, Dan Horner added 11 and Steve Rhodes batting at nine hit a decent 33, putting on 69 with opener Chris Prophet, who now was closing in on a hundred. Prophet was 98 not out facing his side’s last ball but only managed a single, finishing agonisingly short, ending on 99 not out – his innings containing 11 x 4. Kenilworth ending on 240 for 8 from their fifty overs, for Fillongley, Morgan and Jakeman taking three wickets each.

Fillongley soon lost early wickets in reply, falling to 26 for 3, with seamer Muhammad Nayeem doing the damage. A partnership of 52 between opener Carty and Jakeman steadied their side’s innings, until Carty fell for 35, but from 78 for 4, they slipped to 135 for 7 after Jakeman fell for a fine 51. Blackmore made the home side wait, but he was running out of partners, the visitors on the brink on 175 for 9, he was keeping his nerve. However, home skipper Pete Magafas turned to batting hero Chris Prophet to bowl the last over, Fillongley 196 for 9, but with Blackmore not on strike, the home side had six balls at the number eleven, it took just two, Prophet bowling the visitor’s number eleven with his second ball, sparking huge celebrations among the home side. Blackmore ending 41 not out.

Kenilworth the winners by 44 runs. Wicket takers for the home side were Muhammad Nayeem with 4 for 23 from twelve outstanding overs, Darius Potten-Ravenshad 2 for 45 off eleven overs, Henry Curran 2 for 52 from twelve overs, Ian Baker 1 for 23 and 1-0 for spinning man of the match Chris Prophet in the last over.

Kenilworth take the full 24 points, and up into second in the table of Warwickshire Division One.

Next week sees the return of the win/lose format for the final 6 League matches of the season which will be crucial to the side’s future to see where they are placed in the revised Warwickshire Cricket League Divisions for the 2019 season due to the ECB Blueprint and re-organization of Midlands cricket as the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League is being reduced by 50% in size to 24 sides in 2 Divisions, meaning that there will be an influx of sides into the Warwickshire Cricket League, one of its feeder leagues.

However, the side move into second spot in Division 1 and one which will see a tight finish as there are only a few points  between several clubs who are all jockeying for positions for the 2019 season.
