1sts scrape home by their fingernails to record 2nd win of the weekend

1st XI v. Studley

BANK HOLIDAY LEAGUE MATCH – 27.08.2018

WIN !!!!

The 1st XI nearly disastrously threw victory away after earlier bowling Studley out for 132 in their 50 overs a side Bank Holiday Monday Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 clash at the Warwick Road Ground on 27th August.

The side had seemingly been coasting with ease to the target as Tom Booker made 53 (6 x 4) as he shared in a 44 run 5th wicket partnership with young Henry Curran that had taken the side from 66-4 to 110-5.

However, after Booker departed the side wobbled to 124-6 with only 9 runs needed, then two wickets fell with the score on 127 and then to 131-9 with two runs still required, losing the last 4 wickets for 7 runs as Studley’s Jack Williams ran through the tail to set in some panic with a fine 4-9 off 4 overs with the last 3 batsmen out for nought. However, Curran had remained steadfast to hit a composed unbeaten 32 (4 x 4) and it was a wide that gave Kenilworth victory by the narrowest of margins in the 40th over of their innings much to the side’s relief. Rhodes chipped in with 2-23 and a wicket each for Regan and Moore for Studley.

Studley had had Williams who hit 68 earlier to thank for reaching their score as Taylor with 16 was their next highest score. Curran had taken 3-36, Jorjeet Singh 2-16 off 8 overs, Steve Rhodes 2-22. There was a wicket a piece for Jono Sparks and Joey Poole whilst Darius Potten-Ravenshad, although wicketless, only conceded 23 runs from his 10 overs spell. Keeper Booker took two catches behind the stumps.

The win currently moves the side into 3rd. place in the Division, 6 points ahead of 4th place and only 4 points behind Fillongley who are in 2nd. spot with only two win/lose games remaining and 40 points on offer. The runners up spot could be determined next weekend as both sides meet.

In brief, Studley 132-10 (5 points) Kenilworth 133-9 (20 points).
