Booker secures win after great team bowling display

1st. XI v. Weoley Hill

Kenilworth 1st XI hosted Weoley Hill, looking for their third win in a row in the Warwickshire Cricket League Division One.

Weoley Hill chose to bat first on a cloudy but dry summer’s day and after a steady start where they reached 45 for 1, they subsided to 67 for 6, as seamers Steve Rhodes 2 for 34 and Joe Boyle 4 for 22 , took the wickets after both bowling outstanding spells. However, it was the returning of Ed Ruswa with a dazzling spell of spin bowling that saw the visitors all out for just 110 in 43 overs, finishing with figures of 4 for 20 with Steve Rhodes holding onto two sharp catches at slip that summed a really superb overall effort in the field.

Kenilworth’s reply was soon in trouble, as they were reduced to 35 for 5, as opening bowler Chadwick took 3 for 32 to blow the home side’s top order away. Kenilworth were indebted to wicket keeper batsman Tom Booker who came to rescue the side with a gritty and composed 58 not out including eleven boundary fours and who went on to win the game for his side. Lohar with 3 for 50 bowled well for the visitors, but it was Booker who got his side over the line with Kenilworth ending on 111 for 6 to win by four wickets in only 21 overs to take 24 points for their third win in a row that sees them move up to fourth in the Division.
