1st XI v. Rugby

On Saturday 6th June Kenilworth 1st’s travelled to Rugby for their Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division and batted first with openers Dave Edmunds 35 and James Nason 53 (5×4 1×6) putting on 44 for the first wicket. Then a stand of 132 followed for the second wicket between Nason and Tom Booker 78 (10×4 2×6). The fine batting continued with  an unbroken stand of 97 between Chris Prophet 48 not out and Neil Goodman 52 not out (3×4 2×6) for the fourth wicket, as the 1st XI rattled up a season’s best team total of 284 for 3 off their 50 overs, Wilkins with 1 for 33 was the best of the Rugby attack.

Rugby’s reply was kept in check by Kenilworth’s opening bowlers Neil Goodman  who took 1 for 23 and Ian Baker 3 for 52, as the home team slipped to 54 for 3 then 97 for 5. There were wickets for spinners Jorjeet Singh 1 for  26 off 12 tidy overs and Phil Edmonds 2 for 52, as Rugby slipped to 126 for 7. There was also a wicket to for Gregg Peebles 1 for 14. However, the home side’s skipper Edwards batting at 6 held firm to post an unbeaten 90 as he got his side to the draw as Rugby finished the day on 201 for 8 from their 50 overs. Yet, it was a very encouraging performance for Kenilworth as they claimed 17pts for a winning draw.
