1st XI v. King’s Heath

On Saturday 5th August Kenilworth travelled to Birmingham side King’s Heath for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division One fixture.

After rain and hail forced the game to have a delayed start, the match reduced to 42 overs per side, King’s Heath won the toss and Kenilworth were asked to bat first. They lost an early wicket and their second wicket fell with the score on 36. However, Chris Prophet with 28 and Dave Edmunds 23 put on 36 together for the third wicket but runs were proved hard to come by, the home side were on top. Kenilworth slipped further to 89 for 5 then 117 for 7. Other double figure scores for the side were Pete Magafas with 20, Tom Booker 14 and Ben Whidborne 12 but Kenilworth were all out for just 130 in the 41st over. Warden with 3 for 10 and Khan 2 for 26 doing the most damage with the ball for King’s Heath.

The home side lost further overs after another rain delay, and had 26 overs to reach the target. Opening batsmen McKeaver and Baker put on a strong partnership of 71 for the first wicket in quick time, before McKeaver was dismissed for 28, Baker went on to make 47, despite the home side slipping from 71 for 1 to 96 for 4. However, a stand of 30 saw King’s Heath to verge of victory, which they duly achieved with two overs to spare as they reached the winning line on 131 for 5. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were the reliable Steve Rhodes with 2 for 21, Chris Prophet 1 for 24, Dave Edmunds 1 for 26 and Darius Potten-Ravenshad 1 for 27.

Kenilworth take 3 points, as their unbeaten run of seven games came to an end.

Next week sees the return of win lose cricket for the final 6 matches of the League season for the 1sts.
