Firsts record first League win with a good all round display

1st XI v. Fillongley

On Saturday 2nd July, Kenilworth hosted Fillongley still seeking their first Warwickshire Cricket League Division One win of the season.

Fillongley were asked to bat first and made a steady start, but from 47-1, they slipped to 57-4, before Skelding with 48 got his side past a hundred, but with the Kenilworth bowlers making it hard for the visitors, seamers Matt Dargan and Tom Pope both bowling outstanding spells, and both with 3 for 25. There were wickets too for Steve Rhodes 1 for 25 and skipper Chris Prophet 1 for 27 and two smart run outs saw Fillongley slip further to 137-7 as Morgan with 35 not out batting at nine, got his side to 179 all out. It was a fine effort from Kenilworth in the field.

Kenilworth’s reply got off to a fast start, with the in form Guy Pearson with a hard hitting 40 and with skipper Chris Prophet, the pair put on 91 for the first wicket. When Pearson departed, Dave Edmunds joined him and the pair added a further 76 for the second wicket, Prophet was out  for a superb 75  (9 x 4, 1 x 6), but Edmunds hit the winning runs , finishing with fine innings of 50 not out including (6 x 4, 2 x 6), Kenilworth finishing on 180 for 2, winning by eight wickets.

Kenilworth finally recorded their first win of the season, collecting 20 points for their all round efforts.
