Horner guides the 2’s to victory as the other sides falter

2nd XI the only League side to win

Another mixed of results for the three Kenilworth Saturday League sides – 1st. XI had a loss, the 2nd. XI a win, whilst the 3rd. XI lost.

 

1st XI

 

Kenilworth v. Handsworth

WCCL Division 1  – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

LOST BY 7 WICKETS 

Kenilworth 163-10 (49 overs) (3 points) lost to Handsworth 165-3 (39.3 overs) (24 points) by 7 wickets.

 

Despite Town’s Stuart Cope hitting 40 (7 x 4) and Joe Atkinson 37 (4 x 4) as they put on 71 for the first wicket the side could only muster 163 all out as Handsworth’s Dwayne Crossgill removed the side’s top 5 and then Kenrick Smith took 4-16 as Charlie Stranks 20, Adie Sellar and Chris Prophet both with 17, the only other Town batsmen to reach double figures. Handsworth then cantered to victory with 10 overs to spare as opener Renwick Hooper blasted an unbeaten 84 (10 x 4, 1 x 6) from his 100 balls faced with Prince chipping in with 25 and Dawkins 24 along the way as they easily reached 165-3 to secure the win. Darius Potten-Ravenshad took 2-39  for the Town, whilst Atkinson picked up the other Handsworth wicket to fall.

 

 

2nd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Fillongley

WCCL Division 7 East – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

WON BY 9 WICKETS

Fillongley 93-10 (35 overs) (0 points) lost to  Kenilworth 95-1 (28.5 overs) (20 points) by 9 wickets.

 

The Seconds secured a very comfortable win after bowling out Fillongley for 93 as Town’s Dan Horner made light work of the run chase making an unbeaten 61  hitting 10 boundaries in his 87 ball knock as the side reached 95-1 inside 29 overs to consolidate their 4th. spot in the Division as he and Keeran Umashanker 20 not out  put on an unbeaten 81 runs for the second wicket partnership after Mark Stranks had earlier departed after making 13. All the Town bowlers took wickets in the Fillongley innings  with Sam Davies taking 4-35 from his 12 overs, Joe Tate an impressive 2-5 from his 6, Sam Leach 2-14 with a wicket each for Ben Clarke and Louis Smithson. Horner also excelled behind the stumps taking 4 catches and then led the side victory with the bat in the one sided affair.

 

3rd. XI

 

Kenilworth v. Lapworth

CHL Division 4 North – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose format

LOST BY 7 WICKETS

Kenilworth 162-10 (40 overs) (4 points) lost to Lapworth 163-3 (30.3 overs) (21 points) by  7 wickets.

 

Lapworth easily chased down the Town 3’s score of 162 all out to win by 7 wickets with 9 overs in hand as Akhaiq 63 (7 x 4) and Griffin who made an unbeaten 59 (7 x 4) put on 114 runs for their side’s 3rd. wicket. Only 4 Town batsmen had earlier reached double figures with Tarun Ahuja top scoring with 34 (4 x 4, 1 x 6), Matt Dadswell in the tail with 30 (5 x 4), Dhruv Vyas 21 (3 x 4, 1 x 6) and Steve Kelley 17 (3 x 4) as Davis, Faber and Wickle picked up 3 wickets each for Lapworth who then reached 166-3 in their 31st over chasing. Kenilworth’s only wicket takers were Dan Hone and Christian Mortlock with a run out accounting for the other Lapworth wicket to fall.
