The 1st XI’s eight match unbeaten run in the Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 came to an abrupt end with a 5 wicket defeat at the hands of local rivals Highway Spartans at the Warwick Road Ground on Saturday 21st. July.

The side had started well with openers Dave Edmunds, 24 and Adie Sellar 28 putting on 40 for the first wicket. Edmunds’ knock saw him hit 4 boundaries and a six whilst Sellar hit 4 x 4. However, the side proceeded to devastatingly collapse to 93-7 inside 21 overs due to some accurate Spartans bowling. Yet, the side managed to reach 183-9 following some obdurate batting by the tail enders.

Muhammed Nayeem hit 18 as he shared in a 31 run 8th wicket partnership with number 9 Jorjeet Singh who then put on a further 42 runs for the 9th wicket with Darius Potten-Ravenshad who made 20. Singh was unbeaten at the close with an impressive 38 not out that included 3 boundaries. The Spartans’ bowling plaudits were taken by Yardley with 3-49 from his 12 overs and 3-31 from Bains.

In reply, Spartans kept the scoreboard ticking over with relative ease and they reached the winning post ending on 186-5 inside 46 overs and claim maximum points as McCarthy made 49, Miller 50* and Yardley 22* guided the side to victory despite the best efforts of Muhammed Nayeem who took 3-44 from 10.2 overs, Steve Rhodes 1-62 from 12 whilst Kenilworth’s player of the day, Singh, took 1-28 from 11 fine overs. Keeper Tom Booker bagged two catches behind the sticks.
