Saturday 9th.  July

A mixed of results for the three Kenilworth Saturday League sides – 1st. XI had a losing draw, the 2nd. XI a defeat whilst the 3rd. XI won. The weather was hot and the runs flowed. Some high scoring matches.

 

1st XI

 

Kenilworth v. Nether Whitacre

WCCL Division 1  – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

LOSING DRAW FOR KENILWORTH 

Nether Whitacre 282-9 (50 overs) (15 points) drew with Kenilworth 261-4 (50 overs) (12 points)

 

Despite career best 1st. XI scores of 92 (9 x 4, 2 x 6) off 87 balls by Henry Curran and Charlie Stranks  who hit 65 (7 x 4, 1 x 6) their efforts were not quite enough to give the Town side victory as the pair shared in a 149 runs 4th. wicket partnership and had to settle for a draw as overs ran out.  Chris Prophet also made 29 and Joe Atkinson 20 in the Town’s total of 261-4 as they tried to chase down Nether Whitacre’s 282-9 with Steve Rhodes taking 3-59, Tom Skinner 2-41, Atkinson 2-56 and a wicket for Darius Potten-Ravenshad. Whitacre’s Rawlings had earlier made 128, Smith 58,  Lawrence 28 and Murphy 21 on a day where runs flowed off the bat. Curran also took a catch and made two stumpings behind the wicket.

 

 

2nd. XI

Kenilworth v. Nether Whitacre

WCCL Division 7 East – 50 overs a side – Win/Lose/Draw format

KENILWORTH LOST BY 51 RUNS

Nether Whitacre 327-6 (50 overs) (24 points) beat Kenilworth 276-10 (47 overs) (6 points) by 51 runs.

 

Nether Whitacre posted an imposing 327-6  with Joe Darbs hitting 110, Ian Breeze 72. Matt Grove an unbeaten 37 and Carl Titmus 36 as runs flowed in the sun. Josh Charlwood and teenager Tom Best both took 2-57 whilst Sam Leach and Sam Davies the other two wickets to fall. In reply, Danny Boneham made a fine 72 (8 x 4) and Dave Smithson 57 (6 x 4), Joe Tate chipped in with 29 and Mark Stranks 22 but their efforts were in vain as the Town side were bowled out in the 47th. over for 276, with Preece taking 5-37 for the hosts.

 

 

3rd. XI

Kenilworth v. Rowington

CHL Division 4 North – 40 overs a side – Win/Lose format

KENILWORTH WON BY 24 RUNS

Kenilworth 211-5 (40 overs) (22 points) beat Rowington 187-10 (38.1 overs) (6 points) by 24 runs.

 

Teenager, Keeran Umashanker, starred with the bat as he made 53 (10 x 4) as he shared in 72 runs 1st. wicket partnership with Dhruv Vyas who made 50 (9 x 4, 1 x 6) and then in a 80 runs 3rd. wicket partnership with Steve Kelley 39 (7 x 4). Tarun Ahuja added 27 (3 x 4, 1 x 6) in the side’s total of 211-5. In reply, Rowington kept chipping away at the target with Brown making 38, Lucas 28 and Haywood 24 but were bowled out in the penultimate over for 187, some 24 runs short and give victory to the Town side. Dan Hone took 3-36, veteran Pete Alty 2-35, Ahuja 2-56 whilst Umashanker rounded off a fine day for him taking 2-24, with Andy Dadswell a catch and a stumping behind the sticks.
