The Prophet is divine in the side’s first League win of the season

1st XI v. Bablake Old Boys

On Saturday 1st August, Kenilworth first team travelled to Bablake Old Boys for their Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division league match and came away with a much needed and hard earned victory, their first of the season which has lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Bablake batted first, after both opening bowlers Joe Boyle 1 for 49 and Jake Sunderland 2 for 23 took early wickets, Bablake’s number five Ali stroked a composed 102 not out as the hosts made 220 for 7 declared from 45 overs. There were also wickets for Pat Howard with 1 for 24, spinners Ed Ruswa 2 for 53 and Phil Edmonds 1 for 60. There were also two smart catches for Chris Prophet in the outfield.

So, Kenilworth had 55 overs to achieve their first win of the season. They did not disappoint and were on song with the bat.

After an early wicket Kenilworth opener Chris Prophet and Pat Howard with 32 put on a fine 87 for the third wicket, but it was Prophet with a sublime 98 including 13 x 4 and a 6, along with Phil Edmonds with 28 and 25 not out from Neil Goodman saw Kenilworth home by five wickets and four overs to spare for the sides first win of the season as they reached 221-5, with smiles all round for  superb batting performances, one which Bablake paid the price for an early declaration in the belief Kenilworth were the Division’s whipping boys. So, well done Firsts proving that they have life to survive the drop.

Kenilworth 24pts Bablake old Boys 6 pts.
