Two solid wins as the rain denies the 1st’s theirs

A day for the bowlers as Dave Gamble excels in the 2’s.

Rain denied the 1st. XI a chance of their win with only 3 wickets remaining and to be had when the rain came whilst the 2nds. and 3rds. cantered to comprehensive wins in their matches.

1st XI

Kenilworth v. Nether Whitacre

Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 – W/L/D – 50 overs a side.

DRAW

Kenilworth 181-9 (10 points) (50 overs) drew with Nether Whitacre 129-7 (15 points) (34 overs).

Rain frustrated Kenilworth’s chances of victory when the side needed only three more Nether Whitacre wickets but had to settle for a draw. The side had posted 181-9 off their 50 overs with Joe Atkinson 46 (4 x 4, 1 x 6) and Tom Booker 57 (10 x 4) putting on 88 for the first wicket. George Baines then chipped in with 19 and Connor Shingler 15 not out in the side’s total as Rawlings took 4-40 for the visitors. Nether Whitacre reached 129-7 in 34 overs with Knight making 22 and Swaffer 22 not out but the rain came wiping out the last 16 overs of play and with it there was a wet end to the day after Steve Rhodes had taken 2-36, Atkinson 2-17, Darius Potten-Ravenshad, Sunil Kumar and Shingler a wicket each for Kenilworth.

2nd XI

Kenilworth v. Massey Ferguson

Warwickshire Cricket League – Division 7 East – W/L/D – 50 overs a side.

WIN

Kenilworth 153-10 (24 points) (50 overs) beat Massey Ferguson 66-10 (4 points) (30.5 overs) by 87 runs.

The 2nd. XI were far too strong for Massey Ferguson who were skittled out for 66 as Dave Gamble took a stunning 5-2 from his 7.5 overs, 5 of which were maidens. Shyaan Iman claimed 2-20 whilst there was a wicket each for Christian Mortlock (1-6 off his 5 overs), Will Machin and Will Sheehan. Kenilworth had earlier posted 153-10 with James Adamson top scoring with 36, Pete Huxford 25, Sam Leach 18 and Dave Smithson 17 but the side breezed to victory with ease thanks to Gamble’s fine efforts and the other bowlers’ accurate spells to pick up maximum points for their 87 runs win.

3rd. XI

Kenilworth v. Overbury

Cotswold Hills Cricket League – Division 6 – W/L – 40 overs a side.

WIN

Overbury 52-10 (0 points) (27 overs) lost to Kenilworth 54-1 (17 points) (8.1 overs) by 9 wickets.

Kenilworth’s 3rd. XI took another step closer to promotion and the divisional title with two matches now remaining of their League season following a comprehensive 9 wickets win over bottom placed, Overbury who were skittled out for only 52. Geoff Edmunds took 3-11 from his 9 overs, Matt Dadswell 2-8 from his 6 overs, whilst there was a wicket each for Dhruv Vyas and James Sparks, who also ran out two Overbury players. Despite losing a wicket in the first over of the run chase, the father and son duo of Uma and Keeran Umashanker put on 53 runs together in quick time to see Kenilworth to 54-1 inside 9 overs as the side consolidated top spot in the Division and open up a 37 point gap over second placed team, Bretforton.
