WELCOME TO THE 2022 SEASON – the first 2 matches and 2 wins

The 2022 season gets underway with two friendly wins

Hooray! ………. The 2022 season has finally commenced after the winter hibernation from our on field cricketing activities with two much awaited and entertaining (…… and very) friendly matches with great local opposition and close results at our Warwick Road Ground over last weekend. It’s what cricket is all about. Being together and playing a sport we ALL love!

Saturday 9th. April

1st XI

Kenilworth v. Coventry & North Warwickshire 2’s

FRIENDLY – 40 overs a side

KENILWORTH WON BY 3 RUNS

Kenilworth 139-10 (39.5 overs) beat Coventry & North Warwickshire 2’s 136-7 (40 overs) by 3 runs. Scorecard

Connor Shingler took 4-15.

In the opening match of their 2022 season, Kenilworth hosted Coventry & NW 2’s  in a friendly match at their Warwick Road Ground that saw them win by 3 runs in an entertaining match in which the Town’s Connor Shingler starred with the ball.

Kenilworth posted 139 in their innings thanks to a 39 ball 37 from Stuart Cope (6 x 4) and 21 from new skipper, Joe Atkinson (2 x 4), whilst a crucial 31 run 9th wicket partnership between Matt Casey 15 and Tom Skinner 14 added much needed runs to their final total.  Johnson took 2-11 whilst Cook and Palmer both took  2-14 for the visitors.

In reply, Cov & NW started cautiously but picked up the pace with Ian Gill hitting 39, Zak Taylor an unbeaten  27 and Mike Cook 22 but it was the introduction of Shingler that turned the game around in Kenilworth’s favour as he took a fine 4-15 from his seven overs. With 15 required off the last over, Cov & NW were only able to hit 12 and they fell 3 runs short of Kenilworth’s score as the match ended with them on 136-7. Tom Skinner and Atkinson were Kenilworth’s other wicket takers, whilst wicketkeeper Henry Curran took 3 fine catches behind the stumps.

Sunday 10th. April
