2 Wins in the sun

Rhodes stars …… with the bat!

 

All 3 Kenilworth sides were in League action on Saturday that saw a two wins and a narrow defeat.

 

1st XI

Kenilworth v. Hampton & Solihull

Warwickshire Cricket League Division 1 – W/L – 50 overs a side.

WIN

Hampton & Solihull 218-6 (7 points) (50 overs) lost to Kenilworth 221-9 (20 points) (48.3 overs) by 1 wicket.

 

Kenilworth’s number 10, Steve Rhodes was the side’s match winning hero as he hit an unbeaten 42 in the run chase as the 1st. XI sneaked a one wicket win with 9 balls of the match remaining against Hampton & Solihull who had earlier posted 218-6. He and number 9, Matt Casey, who made 20 (3 x 4) added 61 crucial runs in their 9th. wicket stand after Tom Booker had made an on-song 66 (8 x 4, 2 x 6) and Pat Howard 29 (5 x 4) for the side. Tailender Rhodes blasted 3 sixes and two boundaries, in his hard hitting knock to seal the win, despite Keyte taking 4-66 and Rollinson 3-30 for Hampton as he dominated the latter overs. Earlier, Connor Shingler had claimed 3-39 whilst Stuart Cope, Darius Potten-Ravenshad and Casey picked up a wicket each for Kenilworth as Howard made 52 not out, Friend 46, Horgan 44 and James 43 for Hampton. Yet, the day belonged to Rhodes on a day that Kenilworth’s tail wagged in an exciting finish to the match.

 

 

2nd XI

Kenilworth v. Knowle Village

Warwickshire Cricket League – Division 7 East – W/L – 50 overs a side.

LOSE

Knowle Village 225-10 (20 points) (49.4 overs) beat Kenilworth 221-10 (4 points) (49.4 overs) by 4 runs.

 

The 2nd. XI fell agonizingly 4 runs short of the Knowle’s score of 225 all out and were bowled out themselves for 221 with two balls of the match remaining after Kapil Dubey 22 and Sam Leach 14 not out had added 37 for the 10th. wicket with Dubey smashing 15 from the penultimate over. Dan Horner had set Kenilworth up well in the run chase as he made a fine 95 (10 x 4) and Dave Edmunds 25 (5 x 4) but their efforts were in vain as Stringer took 3-43, Mahood 2-29, Rose 2-40 and Langford 2-50 for Knowle in a close match that could have gone either way after Knowle had lost 6 wickets for 34 runs in their innings yet Tamplin made 47 for the side, White 42 and Mahood 34 despite Kenilworth’s Charlie Stranks taking a good 4-38 and Leach 3-40.

 

 

3rd. XI

Kenilworth v. Southam

Cotswold Hills Cricket League – Division 6 – W/L – 40 overs a side.

WIN

Kenilworth 192-5 (23 points) (40 overs) beat Southam 78-10 (2 points) (21.5 overs) by 114 runs.

 

Kenilworth 3rds. romped to a 114 runs win over Southam who were skittled out for 78 inside 22 overs after Tom Skinner took a stunning 6-12 from his 5.2 overs and Matt Dadswell 3-19 from his 6 overs. Earlier, the Town side had posted 192-5 from their 40 overs as Mark Stranks hit an impressive 82 (9 x 4) and Dave Smithson 39 (3 x 4) as they put on 130 runs for the second wicket. Skipper, Steve Kelley then chipped in with an unbeaten 24 after Ward had taken 2-24 and Aguihotri 2-44 for Southam. Skinner then ripped through the host’s line up as only two batsmen reached double figures with Williams top scoring with 38 and to consolidate Kenilworth’s top spot in the Division.
