Saturday 2nd XI v Aston

Veteran last wicket pairing secures draw

Kenilworth’s last pair wicket of old timers Jeff Stanners and Ali Peebles batted out the last 3 overs of the match to ensure the side was not defeated after Aston had earlier posted 230-9. Massam made 55, Babar and Zaman both 34 and Afzal 29 for the hosts as Charlie Stranks took 3-60, Peebles 2-30, Geoff Edmunds 2-52 and Steve Rhodes 1-26 for Kenilworth. Keeper Mark Stranks took two sharp stumpings. In reply, although Sid Hegde made a very confident 40, Charlie Stranks 36, dad Mark 23 and Rhodes 34, wickets tumbled in the tail and it was left to the last pair veterans to hang on and see the side to safety and end the day on 183-9 after W. Hussain had taken 5-35 and P. Hussain 3-38 for Aston.
