2nd XI v Hunningham

Seconds not in the running at Hunningham

Kenilworth 2nd XI came off second best in their Warwickshire League encounter with Hunningham. Bowling first, the Kenilworth new ball pairing of Pope and Rhodes both caused problems for the Hunningham top order during solid opening spells. Backed up by spin duo Charlie Stranks and Geoff Edmunds, the Town team managed to reduce Hunningham to 116-5 off the first 35 overs of the match. However, Pettifor (72) and James (32) then proceeded to open up their shoulders, hitting to all parts to take the Hunningham score up to 218-8. Pope finishing with 2-49, Stranks 3-68 and Edmunds 3-48. In reply Kenilworth were never really in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Good contributions in the middle order from Kerry (38) and Charlie Stranks (33) and Pope (27) from the number 8 berth kept the game alive but Kenilworth’s reply was terminated at 173 in the penultimate over to give Hunningham the win.
