Watts guides the side to victory

2nd XI v. Griff & Coton

Kenilworth’s Saturday second team travelled to Nuneaton side Griff and Coton for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

The home side were asked to bat first and they found scoring runs difficult against an accurate Kenilworth bowling attack, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Only Shah with a patient innings of 41 and Keshwald 25 made any impact. Young seamers,  Jono Sparks with 2 for 26, Ryan Bull 2 for 33 and Freddie Davies 2 for 30 never let the home side settle with  skipper Geoff Edmunds weighing in with 2 for 15, as Griff and Coton finished on 151 for 9 from their fifty overs.

At 24 for 3,  then 37 for 5, Kenilworth were in trouble themselves. However, young Elliott Sorrell-Haynes joined old timer Michael Watts and the pair batted Kenilworth back into the game with a important partnership of 49 for the sixth wicket, with Sorrell-Haynes making 22. Watts batted brilliantly, and along with number nine Chris Beach put on a match winning partnership of 54 , Beach unbeaten on 17, but it was Watts with a very fine 72 not out who was the hero guiding his side home, his innings containing ten boundary fours. Kenilworth finished on 153 for 7 in 47 overs and took 20 points for their first win of the season.
