Young Freddie stars in side’s defeat

2nd XI v. Barby

On Saturday 27th May, Kenilworth ‘s second team hosted Barby for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Barby chose to bat first but lost early wickets at 18 for 2 and then 47 for 3, as young opening bowlers Ryan Bull and Freddie Davies got amongst the visiting batsmen. Barby number five Franks held his side’s innings together with a solid 62 but Kenilworth stuck to their task in the field and restricted the visitors to 184 for 9 from their fifty overs. Dan Horner and Nathan Chant took two smart catches, as the fielders back up some fine bowling, with Ryan Bull 2 for 34 off eleven overs, Freddie Davies 2 for 23 off ten overs, spinners Geoff Edmunds 1 for 33 off twelve overs , Chris Beach 1 for 49 off twelve overs and seamer Jack Howard with 1 for 49 doing the bowling honours.

Kenilworth’s reply didn’t start well, and were soon struggling at 32 for 2, 62 for 5 and then 75 for 7, until young all-rounder Freddie Davies, batting at six, played another very impressive innings for his side. He was  left stranded on 49 not out, as Kenilworth were eventually all out for a disappointing 114 in only 32 overs.  Nathan Chant with 23 was the only other batsman with a score of note. Gurane with 4 for 31 and Silay 3 for 16 were to prove too good for the home side’s batsmen in the end, as Barby ended up the winners by 70 runs.

Barby 184-9 (24 points)  Kenilworth 114-10 (4 points).
