2nd. XI v. Coleshill

On Saturday 29th July, Kenilworth’s second team travelled to high flying Coleshill for their Warwickshire Division Seven fixture and left the winners by a huge 135 runs to take the maximum 24 points for their efforts.

Asked to bat first, the Kenilworth openers, Mark Stranks and Ben Whidborne, put on 29 for the first wicket before Whidborne fell for 19 in the eighth over. Dan Horner joined Stranks at the wicket and both batsmen were able to get the scoreboard moving. Stranks was to be the second wicket to fall but not before the pair had added a superb 133 together in twenty eight overs. Mark Stranks was dismissed for a fine 70 – his innings containing 9 x 4. Charlie Stranks then joined Horner in the middle but Horner was soon to follow having made a strong 50 with 5 x 4, as Kenilworth slipped from 162 for 1 to 164 for 4. However, Charlie Stranks remained steadfast and saw his side over two hundred, as he made 45 not out, together with Max Howard who made 16 not out, The side finished on 242 for 7 from their fifty overs. Tyler with 3 for 47 was the most successful bowler for Coleshill.

Coleshill started their reply in a very positive manner and they had 60 on the board in only six overs, but they lost two wickets in the progress, as Ryan Bull struck twice, including the dangerous Waugh for an aggressive 39, his innings included five sixes, Bull finishing with 2 for 30 from seven overs.

But when the skipper Geoff Edmunds introduced himself and fellow spinner Chris Beach, the visitors took total control of the game. The wily Edmunds was to wreak havoc on the home batting, as he ripped through the batting taking an amazing 6 for 18 from ten overs. His partner Chris Beach took the other two wickets, finishing with 2 for 19 off six overs. The home side collapsed from 59 for 1 to 107 all out on 26th over.
