Too few runs to defend

2nd XI v. Barby

On Saturday 2nd September, Kenilworth’s Second Team travelled to Barby for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Choosing to bat first, Kenilworth got off to bad start, losing both openers with the score on twelve, but number three Elliott Haynes-Sorrell and number four James Alty began to recover their sides innings, the pair batting sensibly together, Alty was dismissed for 24, the pair added 77 for the third wicket, but Alty’s wicket sparked a collapse for the visitors, Haynes-Sorrell top scoring with 46, but at 104 for 6 they slumped to 113 for 8 and finally were all out for 127 in the 49th over.

For Barby, Knobs took an impressive 4 for 21 from twelve overs.

The home side made a solid start to their reply, openers Craven and Joe putting on 47 for the first wicket, Craven making a solid 30 for his side.

Spin twin elders Chris Beach with 2 for 21 from eleven overs and skipper Geoff Edmunds who took 1 for 34 off ten overs bowled well for the visitors, the pair keeping the home side’s reply in check, but Knobs was to have a fine game for his side, adding an unbeaten 33 to his four wickets earlier in the day. There was a wicket too for KCC’ s young Will Machin, 1 for 11. Catches for Sam Leach, Ben Maney and James Alty supported the bowlers well in the field, but Barby were to run out winners on the day by six wickets, finishing on 128 for 4 in the thirty eighth over.
