2nd XI v. Barby

 

Kenilworth’s Second team travelled to Barby on Saturday 30th June for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Acting Kenilworth captain Charlie Stranks asked the home side to bat first after winning the toss. Joey Poole and Matt Dadswell opened the bowling for Kenilworth, although not giving many runs away, were unable to make an early breakthrough, as the home side’s openers, Dury and C. Bramley put on a solid 88 for the first wicket together, Dury falling for 48. J. Bramley joined his brother, these two putting on 36 for the second wicket, C. Bramley falling one short of fifty, out for 49, when Ben Maney ran Outhwaite out for 28, the home side were 194 for 4, Franks with a brisk 49 not out saw his side post a decent 220 for 5 from their fifty over allocation. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were seamer Jack Howard with 2 for 24 from seven overs and 2 for 34 for the spin of Chris Beach from twelve tidy overs.

After the tea interval, the visitors openers Joey Poole and Jack Howard set about the task of chasing down the 221 to win. They made a quick start in no time the pair added fifty together, they put on 71in twelve overs when Howard was out for 30. Elliott Haynes-Sorrell joined Poole, Sorrell was out for 11, adding 31 with Poole, Kenilworth now 102 for 2. Next man in Ben Maney made a brisk 29, including a massive six down the ground, the visitors well placed at 156 for 3 after 24 overs. Michael Watts, playing his first game of the season, joined opener Poole, adding 18 together when Poole was dismissed for a brilliant 74(13 x 4 and 1 x 6), Kenilworth now 174 for 4, skipper Charlie Stranks fell for 6, now 182 for 5, a sixth wicket fell on 217, but Watts with a composed innings of 37 not out saw his side home, Kenilworth finishing on 221 for 6 in the 44th over, winning by four wickets and six overs to spare, for Barby, J. Bramley had a solid game, taking 4 for 45.

Kenilworth take 20 points for a fine team performance.
