Seconds run out of overs to win

2nd XI v. Solihull Blossomfield

On Saturday 7th July, Kenilworth’s Second team travelled to Solihull Blossomfield for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

Due to the England football, the match had an early start and was reduced to forty overs each. The home side won the toss and chose to bat first, openers Ramachanken and Vemna put on 36 for the first wicket, Ramachanken was caught by Sam Leach for 30, Seifas added 30 with Vemna before he was caught by Matt Dadswell for 17, the home side 66 for 2, that became 106 for 3 when skipper Charlie Stranks had Jhass caught and bowled for 17. Stranks was to take three more quick wickets, the home side in trouble at 118 for 7, but Smith played a key innings for his side, making a fine 65 not out, along with Jamil with 24 not out, put on exactly 100 together for the eighth wicket, as Blossomfield ended on 218 for 7 from their forty overs. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Charlie Stranks 4 for 53, Ryan Bull, playing his first game of the season, 2 for 53, both off nine overs added to a run out from Sam Leach.

Kenilworth’s opening pair of Dan Horner and Pete Huxford looked to make a solid start, but Horner fell for 1 and Huxford for 13, and the visitors further slipped to 30 for 2. A partnership of 61 between the in form Elliot Haynes-Sorrell and Ben Maney took the score to 91 when Maney was bowled for a brisk 35. Mark Stranks joined Sorrell, another solid stand, these two added 66 together before Stranks was out for 27, Kenilworth 157 for 4. Sorrell fell for another well played fifty, out for 67 (8 x 4), the visitors 181 for 5. Skipper Charlie Stranks fell for 9, as Kenilworth just ran out of overs, Sam Leach 11 not out and Theo Mannion 6 not out, the visitors just short of victory, ending on 201 for 7 from their forty overs. For Blossomfield, Smith took 2 for 44. Kenilworth take 11 points for a losing draw.
