Horner and Sparks guide side to victory with ease after bowlers’ earlier efforts

On Saturday 25th August, Kenilworth’s second team travelled to bottom side Griff and Coton 1’s for their Warwickshire Cricket League Division Seven fixture.

After a delayed start due to rain, the match was reduced to 47 overs per side.

Kenilworth asked the home side Griff and Coton to bat first, two early wickets for Johnny Mortlock had the home side on the back foot, the home side were unable to get on top of the visitors bowling, only number six Lawlor with 45 not out had any answer to the Kenilworth bowling. Griff finished on 131 for 6 from their forty seven overs. Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Johnny Mortlock with a miserly 2 for 2 from six overs, Chris Beach 2 for 38 from twelve overs and 1 for 29 from twelve overs from  Matt Casey.

Kenilworth lost opener Matt Casey in the second over, the visitors 0 for 1. Elliot Haynes Sorrell joined Dan Horner, but he fell for 16, the visitors now 22 for 2. Jono Sparks joined Horner now, together the pair got their side on track, both players looked confident at the crease, they were in fine form, punishing anything short or wide, together they went on to see their side home in the 30th over, putting on 113 unbroken together, Kenilworth finishing on 135 for 2 to win comfortably by eight wickets. Dan Horner unbeaten on 62, his innings with 8 x 4, Sparks unbeaten on 46. Lawlor and Stephens with a wicket apiece for Griff.

Kenilworth take 20 points, staying in a comfortable mid table position with three games to go.
