Bowled out early costs the 2nds the game after Freddie’s quickfire knock

2nd XI v. Moseley Ashfield

Kenilworth’s 2nd XI hosted Moseley Ashfield for their Warwickshire Cricket Seven fixture on Saturday 29th April.

Kenilworth were asked to bat first and against an accurate Ashfield bowling attack, the hosts found scoring runs difficult and were in serious trouble at 38 for 5. However, young Freddie Davies strode to the crease to join opening bat Mark Deeley.  Davies proceeded to find the boundary, hitting 22 in one over, as he went on to make a very fine 54, his innings containing 5 x 4 and 3 x 6 off only 31 balls. Deeley made a patient 25 off 107 balls, followed by a cameo of 20 from number nine Chris Beach, saw Kenilworth all out for 151 in 47 overs. Ward with 3 for 38 and captain Bhachu 2 for 24 doing the main damage.

Moseley Ashfield made a solid start putting on 33 for the first wicket, along with steady partnerships through their reply they never really looked in danger of not reaching their target. Spinners Chris Beach with 1 for 30 off twelve tidy overs and captain Geoff Edmunds with a very frugal 1 for 11 off twelve overs put the brakes on the Ashfield reply. Yet with the extra three overs available to them, the visitors took full advantage of bowling Kenilworth out early and they finished on 153 for 4 with ten balls remaining to win the match. Bartlett with a patient 51 and Udoh with 35 not out, saw their side home to win by six wickets. Freddie Davies was the other Kenilworth  wicket taker with 1 for 40. Kenilworth take 3 points.
