2nds suffer despite Phil Edmonds’ bowling

Only spinner, Phil Edmonds had anything to smile about as he snapped up a tidy 6-52 off his 15 overs for Kenilworth in their opening Division 2 2nd XI match of the season in the Warwickshire Cricket League as the side slumped to a crushing 208 run defeat at the hands of Lyndworth.

The visitors set a very stiff target posting 266-9 off their 50 overs as Afzal hit 70, Ahmed 63 and number 10, Waqas unbeaten on 38. Kenilworth toiled under the aggressive batting onslaught with only Edmonds to offer any resistance with his wily off spin. Jaesh Naik and Ian Baker were the only other Kenilworth bowlers to claim a wicket apiece.

In reply, Kenilworth were soon in trouble against a pacy attack. Only opener Tom Booker reached double figures reaching 14 before he fell and the side collapsed and were quickly skittled out for a paltry 58. Number 11 colt, Jonathan Mortlock, was the side’s unbeaten batsman on 8 not out in a day to forget about for them. Hussain took 6-11, Naesu 2-2 and Sajjad 2-29 for victorious Lyndworth.
