Stranks stars as Second stay top

2nd XI v. Berkswell

Kenilworth’s 2nd XI travelled to play Berkswell 3’s, looking for a win to keep them top of the Warwickshire Cricket League Division Eight East game.

Berkswell were asked to bat first and made a solid start thanks to Marks with a fine 50 and Greyling with 45. Kenilworth’s bowlers kept chipping away and seamer Tom Pope took 2 for 32 from ten overs, but it was spinners Phil Edmonds with 1 for 50 and skipper Geoff Edmunds who took yet another five wicket haul, with fine figures of 5 for 38 from ten overs that pegged the hosts back whilst veteran Ali Peebles was also amongst the wickets with 1 for 27, as keeper Michael Watts claimed five catches behind the stumps. Berkswell finished on 209 for 9 from their forty five overs.

Kenilworth made a strong start to their reply, opening pair Phil Edmonds with 39 putting on 77 for the first wicket with Mark Stranks. Martin McKenna with 19 kept the scoreboard moving, as along with Stranks put on 82 for the third wicket, Mark Stranks went on to make a very fine 85 including 15 x 4. It was left to young Henry Curran with 26 not out and Michael Watts 11 not out to see Kenilworth home with eight overs and to finish on 210 for 4 , winning by six wickets. Milnes with 2 for 21 was the pick of the home side’s bowling. Kenilworth take 20 points and stay top of Division Eight East to increase their lead to 13 points over the second placed side.
