3rds maintain impressive run of wins

3rd XI v. Astwood Bank V

Kenilworth’s Third team entertained Astwood Bank Fifths for their Cotswold Hills League Division Six fixture on Saturday 5th August, looking to keep their winning run going.

Home captain Sam Leach won the toss and put the visitors into bat. Opening bowlers Pete Alty and Nick Moore had the Banks batsmen coming and going to and from the crease in quick time, the visitors slipping to 2 for 2 and in deep trouble at 7 for 5 in only six overs, Alty finished with an incredible 3 for 3 from five devastating overs, as his partner in crime Moore taking 2 for 9 from his five overs. Alty was replaced by fifteen year old Matt Dadswell, who also got amongst the wickets, with a bowling a tidy six over spell, taking 2 for 11. On debut young Will Machin bowled a tidy five overs, but it was his replacement Alex Cockburn who also got amongst the wickets, taking 2 for 17 from five overs. Cockburn also held onto two smart catches in the outfield. It was left to skipper Sam Leach (1 for 2) to take the final wicket, as Astwood Bank were skittled out for an under par total of 81 all out inside 33 overs. Only Neal with 15 and Hodson with 15 not out batting at eleven were in double figures for the visitors.

Kenilworth openers Ant Kerry and Geoff Hay went out after the tea interval, Hay was dismissed for 6 with the score on 21, Andy Dadswell joined Kerry at the crease, he and Kerry took the score to 57 before Kerry was caught on the mid wicket boundary for ten. Debutant Dean Machin joined Dadswell, the pair saw their side over the line, with Dadswell hitting the winning runs in the 23rd over, to finish unbeaten on 37 not out and Machin 8 not out. Kenilworth ending on 84 for 2 to win by eight wickets with ease.

Kenilworth take 21 points and extend their winning run to five matches in a row.
