The Thirds batsmen disappoint as side lose

3rd XI v. WCC Staff II

On Saturday 9th June Kenilworth’s Third team hosted high flying Warwick Staff 2nds for their Cotswold Hills League Division Six fixture at their Harbury ground.

Put into bat the home side made a poor start against an accurate Staff bowling attack, Uma Shanker fell for 2, with the score on six. Jeff Stanners fell with the score on 17, Andy Dadswell joined opener Geoff Hay, both Dadswell and Hay were out for 14 to Wright, who went on to finish with 3 for 24 from his ten overs.

At 39 for 6 after the needless run out of Matt Dadswell for one, and the home side were in deep trouble, and at 60 for 9, last man Andy Kennell joined Skipper Geoff Edmunds, the pair nudged 17 to the total before Edmunds was caught off Amor for 13, Kenilworth all out for a paltry 77 in forty overs, along with 23 extras, Dadswell and Hay hit 14 and Edmunds 13, the only double figure scores. Amor took 3 for 15 from ten overs to back up Wright’s efforts.

After the players enjoyed tea, Ed Smith and Matt Dadswell opened up the bowling for Kenilworth, and after Rodger hit the first ball of their reply for four, Smith bowled the opener with his next ball, Staff 4 for 1. A stand of 39 between opener Darby and Wright for the second wicket put their side on control, but the introduction of spinner Tom Skinner in replacing Smith, Smith having figures of 1 for 14 off five overs, Skinner having Wright caught by Ed Smith for 15, 43 for 2 soon became 56 for 4, a bowled and a catch from Geoff Hay, briefly gave the home side a glimmer of hope. Darby stood firm for the visitors, he saw his side home with 32 not out, Warwick Staff finished on 81 for 4, to win by six wickets in the 30th over. Tom Skinner returned excellent figures of 3 for 17 from ten quality overs, the only real positive from a disappointing day.

Kenilworth taking just two points for their efforts.
