Thirds lose out

3rd XI v. Claverdon

Kenilworth’s Third team hosted leaders Claverdon at their Harbury ground on Saturday 23rd July for their Cotswold Hills League Division Six fixture on a glorious summers day.

Claverdon batted first, but soon slipped to 12 for 2, as opening bowlers Sam Leach 2 for 15 and Nick Moore 1 for 37, taking a wicket each thanks to catches behind for young keeper Elliot Haynes-Sorrell, Sorrell went on to take four smart catches behind on his league debut. Claverdon started to build again, but the introduction of young Ryan Bull was to check their progress, taking four wickets in his first spell, reducing the visitors to 95 for 6, a hard hitting 41 from Andrews helped the visitors to a total of 191 all out in the 37th over. Bull went on to claim his fifth wicket in his second spell, Indy Matharu with 1 for 28 and spinner Chris Beach 1 for 29, Claverdon were helped by the host’s bowling 42 wides and no balls.

Kenilworth were soon in trouble in their reply, slipping to 27 for 3 with Hastings with 3 for 16 doing the damage, further wickets falling saw Kenilworth fall to 43 for 6, only lower order patient innings from Ryan Bull with a personal best of 21 and 17 from Chris Beach saw Kenilworth to 120 all out, the home side were also indebted to 48 extras , as the visitors ran out winners by 71 runs, Kenilworth taking 6 points.
