Thirds slump this week

3rd XI v. Kenilworth Wardens IV

Kenilworth hosted local rivals Kenilworth Wardens at their Harbury ground on Saturday 9th July for their Cotswold Hills League Division Six fixture and whom they played the previous week in the League when Kenilworth were victors.

.

The Wardens were put into bat and their openers made a strong start with Salisbury 31 and Sorrel  56 putting on 71 for the first wicket. They went onto smash 232 for 5 from their forty five overs as Bultes added an unbeaten 42. For Kenilworth,  Chris Beach took a fine 2 for 37 from ten overs,  experienced seamer Indy Matharu  took 1 for 56. They were also two smart run outs, courtesy of young Sam Markgraf and Chris Beach.

Kenilworth had a terrible start in reply and slipped to 30 for 4, with Salisbury doing the damage ending with 4 for 31. However, Andy Dadswell 15 and young Max Howard with a league best of 34 steadied things with a forty five run partnership, but the home side were never in the game and finished on a disappointing 135 for 8 from their forty five overs.

Nick Moore made 16 and Geoff Hay 13 and they were the only other batsman to reach double figures, Kenilworth Wardens won by 97 runs in the return League fixture as Kenilworth took just the four points for their efforts.
