Thirds win on penultimate ball

Howe and Matharu secure win

Kenilworth’s number 11 Indy Matharu proved to be the hero with the bat as he smashed a six on the penultimate ball of the game to earn the side a 1 wicket win at Exhall & Wixford who had earlier posted 158-9 as Morrow made 51, Harwood 37 and Lay 20. Kenilworth’s skipper Sam Leach took 3-14 from 7 frugal overs whilst Chris Beach backed him up with 2-23, Jono Sparks 2-43 and Danny Boneham 1-23. Kenilworth’s opening bat Dave Howe gave a sterling performance as he remained unbeaten throughout the innings. He went on to make 63 not out, after colts Boneham had added 17 and Henry Curran 16 but it was Matharu who brought the side glory as he blasted the ball over the ropes with a ball to spare in a nervy ending to the match and posting 12 not out to lift the side to 161-9 and give Kenilworth an unlikely victory much to the heartbreak of the Exhall for whom Morrow had taken 2-16, Richardson 2-20 and Goldshaw 2-30. The thirds have now won their last two matches.
