Sunday XI v. Coomb’s Wood

On Sunday 12th August, Kenilworth’s Sunday side made the long trip to Coombs Wood for their Arden Sunday Cricket League Division 3 fixture.

After a delayed start due to rain, the match was reduced to thirty overs per side. Coombs Wood were asked to bat first, opening bowlers Matthew Dadswell and Matt Casey both picked up an early wicket, reducing the home side to 20 for 2. Another wicket for Dadswell, having Abas caught for 20, Wood now 27 for 3. A stand of 61 in quick time between Whyte (49 not out) and Saeed (38) got their side back on track. After another rain delay, the players returned, except one who went shopping instead, for the last ten overs. Further wickets from Kenilworth kept the home side to 165 for 7 from thirty overs. The wicket takers for Kenilworth were Chris Prophet with 2 for 18, Matthew Dadswell with 2 for 23 from six overs, Matt Casey 1 for 16 from five overs, Jorjeet Singh 1 for 22 from six and Darius Potten-Ravenshad 1 for 39 from six overs.

Kenilworth openers Dan Horner and Jorjeet Singh put on 23 for the first wicket, Skipper Horner bowled by Cranage for 15, two more quick wickets for Cranage left the visitors in trouble at 29 for 3. When Singh was dismissed for 26, Kenilworth were 56 for 4, all the wickets to the left arm seam of Cranage. Whyte replaced Cranage, he soon got among the wickets, ripping out the rest of the visitors batting, only Potten-Ravenshad with 14 not out and Haynes Sorrell 12 made other double figure scores, Whyte taking an unbelievable 5 for 4 from five overs, Kenilworth all out for just 87 in the 23rd over . Coombs Wood the winners by 78 runs.
