Sunday side ease to victory

Sunday XI v. Knowle Village

WIN!!

On a glorious Sunday 2nd September, Kenilworth travelled the short distance to Knowle Village in the Arden Sunday Cricket League.

Visiting skipper Geoff ‘birthday boy’ Edmunds won the toss and decided to bat first. Things didn’t start well for the visitors, losing Dan Horner in the first over for a single. Fellow opener Henry Curran was joined by the prolific Elliot Haynes Sorrell, the pair took the score to 49 when a mix left Sorrell run out by twenty two yards for 9, this bought Jorjeet Singh to join Curran, but Curran was soon on his way back to the pavilion, caught for 33, Kenilworth now 56 for 3. This bought Jono Sparks to the crease, Sparks hit a sparkling cover drive first ball for four, this continued for next 16 overs, as both Singh and Sparks found the ropes on many occasions, the pair put on a brisk 87 when Sparks mistimed a drive and was caught for an eye catching 71 (11 x 4 & 1 x 6). 177 for 4 became 179 for 5 when Jorjeet Singh was out for 39. Further quick runs in the last few overs, Max Howard with 28, Darius Potten Ravenshad 17 and Matt Dadswell with 10, Tom Skinner hit the last ball of the innings for a huge six over mid wicket, Kenilworth posting a very decent 250 for 8 from their forty overs. S. Newman and Young taking two wickets each for the village.

After the tea interval, the home side looked to chase down the visitors total, but Kenilworth’s opening bowler Matt Dadswell had other ideas, a caught and bowled in the first over, clean bowled in his second and a catch via the safe hands of Haynes Sorrell, Young, Holmes and Krish all back in the pavilion, Village 31 for 3 off eight overs, young Matt Dadswell taking an impressive 3 for 14 from six tidy overs. Skipper Geoff Edmunds replaced Max Howard, he too was soon amongst the wickets, two wickets for Edmunds reducing the home side to 58 for 5. Young Louis Smithson replaced Edmunds, on his third over picked up his first senior wicket, having Tibbits caught by Geoff Edmunds at short mid wicket for 27. Tom Skinner took the wicket of S. Newman for 24 thanks to a smart boundary catch from Max Howard, Village on the ropes now at 106 for 7. Edmunds returned and snapped up two wickets straight away, 112 for 9. With one wicket needed, Edmunds gave Darius Potten Ravenshad the ball, it took three balls, Ravenshad taking the last wicket thanks to another catch from Max Howard.
Knowle Village all out for just 117 in the 28th over.

Wicket takers for Kenilworth were Geoff Edmunds with 4 for 11 off four overs, Matt Dadswell 3 for 14 off six overs, Louis Smithson 1 for 21 off three, Tom Skinner 1 for 39 off eight overs and Darius Potten Ravenshad with 1 for 2.

Kenilworth the winners by a huge 133 runs, and take the full 24 points.
