Sunday XI v. Moseley

On Sunday 28th April, Kenilworth travelled to Moseley for the first Arden Sunday League Division Three fixture of the season and came away as winners by 4 wickets.
Moseley won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side opened with skipper Williams and Mahmood, they lost Mahmood in the third over, Seamer Joey Poole found his edge, and Matt Casey took a sharp catch at slip, the home side 6 for 1. Hussain joined Williams, but a fired up Poole found his edge, caught behind by keeper Henry Curran for 6. Williams and number four Mohammed then set about rebuilding their side’s innings, putting on 58 for the third wicket when young Kieran Shanker who replaced Joey Poole, accounted for Hussain for 30, caught behind by Curran, 86 for 3 became 88 for 4 when Skipper Matt Casey bowled D. Jarman for no score, Williams was then bowled by Shanker for 38, 90 for 5 was 98 for 6 after 28 overs, A. Jarman caught by Joey Poole for 1 off the bowling of Will Thompson. Ngatch and Mahmood then put on 33 for the seventh wicket, but the return of George Jeyaratnam bowled both men for 22 and 16, a late flurry saw Moseley finish on 157 for 8 from their forty overs. Wickets were shared around with Joey Poole taking sublime 2 for 14 from eight overs, Jeyaratnam 2 for 22 from eight overs, Kieran Shanker 2 for 30 from five overs, Matt Casey 1 for 16 from six and 1 for 38 from seven overs from Will Thompson, as the players headed off for tea.
Kenilworth had a disastrous start in their reply, losing Henry Curran and Elliott Haynes Sorrell in the first over, both bowled by D. Jarman for no score, Kenilworth 5 for 2. Opener Umar Shanker and Nathan Chant then dug in and started to build a partnership, taking the score to 45 when Shanker fell lbw to Oryakan. Young Shyaan Iman also fell lbw to Stephenson for 1, the visitors 56 for 4 and the game nicely poised. Skipper Matt Casey joined Chant, and took the score to 71 when Singh induced a catch behind, Nathan Chant falling for a fine 37. Casey and Kieran Shanker put on 26 for the sixth wicket, when Young Shanker was caught off Singh. All rounder George Jeyaratnam joined his skipper and together they edged their side towards their victory target, Jeyaratnam was particularly aggressive, hitting several fours, as he and Casey got their side over the line with nine overs to spare, Casey ending on 31 not out and Jeyaratnam 35 not out, the pair putting on an unbeaten stand of 61 for the seventh wicket. A huge extras total of 48 helped Kenilworth win by four wickets, including 35 wides as they reached 158-6 with Singh and D. Jarman taking two wickets each for Moseley. Kenilworth starting their Sunday league campaign with a maximum 24 points.
