A wonderful venue and some great cricket

Sunday XI ‘B’ v. Himbleton

Kenilworth 263-4 beat Himbleton 188-9 by 75 runs.

On a glorious day at a glorious Ground the runs flowed as Kenilworth travelled to Himbleton. What a venue!

Kenilworth’s youngsters George Baines and Shyaan Imam started the run fest as they shared in a 165 run opening 1st wicket partnership. Baines was in sublime form as he peppered the boundary 14 times and hit 4 sixes in his 93 ball century knock of 114 before he retired, whilst Imam hit his maiden Senior half century making 56 (4 x 4, 1 x 6). Connor Shingler then joined in to blast a quickfire 55 before he retired smashing 4 x 4 and 5 x 6 in his 21 ball knock. Yash Joshi chipped in with 13 as the side reached 263-4. Clifton took 2-35 for the hosts.

Himbleton’s openers Lacey 36 and Corlett 52 put on 73 for the first wicket in reply on a hot afternoon. Others came and went. Shingler was introduced into the attack in devastating form as he took 5-24 from his 6 overs including 3 wickets in an over that changed the game. At stumps, Himbleton ended on 188-9, 75 runs short of the target. Old timer Andy Smith took 1-34 from his 8 overs, Matt Dadswell 1-45 from his, Geoff Edmunds 1-13 and a rare bowling opportunity from Andy Dadswell saw him take 1-18 in his brief spell hitting middle stump.

However, the day belonged to talented youngsters Baines, Imam and Shingler for their memorable performances on a day that cricket was the winner and a match played in great spirit at a lovely ground. Can’t beat a day like this!
