Inter-Club 40 overs a side game – Sunday 26.07.2020

Team Casey v. Team Leach

Team Leach 171-6 (40 overs) beat Team Casey 167-10 (40 overs) by 4 runs.

The Inter-Club game managed to take place and be uninterrupted as the rain clouds swirled around but skirted the Ground and there were no downpours.

The match went to a last ball thriller.

Team Leach batted first and posted 171-6 in their 40 overs. Jono Spark retired not out on 55, whilst there was steady input from Charlie Stranks 23 and Yash Joshi 20. Skipper Sam Leach put in some late impetus to bolster the side’s score as he made 25. There were wickets for Henry Curran 2-13, Tom Skinner 2-34 and 1-29 from Dan Barrie. Although wicketless, youngsters Andrew O’Reilly and Keiran Umashanker had impressive bowling spells for Team Casey.

Team Casey got off to a slow start but a 4th wicket stand between Will Thompson 37 with Curran brought the side back into contention. Curran went onto to make an unbeaten 46 after he had shared in a 7th wicket partnership with Matt Casey who hit 36.

Eight runs were required off the last over by the side but they were bowled out last ball of the match 4 runs short of Team Leach’s total, posting 167 all out to give Team Leach a narrow win in a good game. There were impressive bowling spells from Christian Mortlock 1-21 and Thomas Best 1-40, whose figures were spoilt late on. Stranks took 2-5, Christian Russ 2-38 and a wicket each for Sam Leach and Patrick O’Reilly. Two run outs accounted for the other two wickets to fall.

Next week, (2nd. August),  there will be TWO Sunday XI sides out playing Ashorne away and hosting Kenilworth Wardens Development XI at home. Both 1.00 p.m. start.
