Concern over lightning causes match’s abandonment

Sunday XI v. Coombs Wood

Kenilworth’s 40 overs a side Arden Sunday League match against was abandoned by the Umpires following lightning and thunder that swept across the area after the match had been earlier stopped by a brief rainstorm when Coombs Wood were on 150-6 after 38.1 overs.

Coombs Wood had opener, Abbas, to thank for reaching their score as he was unbeaten on 91 not out when play was interrupted. Kenilworth bowlers had bowled tidy spells with Matt Casey and Charlie Stranks both taking 2-13  whilst Max Howard took 1-21 and Geoff Edmunds 1-11. Dan Horner behind the stumps took to smart catches.

After the rain storm had come and gone and just before the resumption of play, lightning in the area arrived which caused the Umpires to abandon the game for player safety and no more play was possible.
