Batting collapse condemns side to defeat

Sunday XI v. Highway Spartans II

LOSE

Kenilworth Cricket Club’s Sunday XI fell 11 runs short of the Highway Spartans score in their Arden Sunday Cricket League Division 3 fixture on Sunday 22nd. July 2018.

Batting first, Highway posted 141 thanks to opener Tom Yardley hitting 53 (6 x 4, 2 x 6) off 73 balls, followed by James Moynihan the next highest scorer with 19 as the bowlers tied down the batsmen. 14 year old Theo Mannion was in sparkling form as he snapped up 4-25 from 6.3 very tidy overs, followed by colt paceman Max Howard who took 3-7 off two overs as he mopped up the Highway tail, after Geoff Edmunds had earlier taken 2-28 from 8 overs and Joe Poole 1-19 off his 6 overs.

In reply, the Sunday XI recovered from 20-2 as Dave Edmunds hit 32 (7 x 4) and Nathan Chant 30 (2 x 4, 2 x 6) as the pair put on 63 runs for the 3rd wicket to leave the side well placed  but then a disastrous batting collapse ensued and it saw the side collapse to 100-8, losing 6 wickets for 17 runs as Kevin Wall with 4-30 and Billy Dyal 2-19 ran through the mid order. Max Howard stood firm with the tail in a patient 53 ball innings that saw him post an unbeaten 17 but he ran out of partners as the side were unable to deal with the Highway charge and were bowled out inside 36 overs for 130 in a day of disappointment for the Sunday XI side.

Highway Spartans 24 points Kenilworth 5 points.
