No joy for the Sunday XI

Sunday XI v. Houghton & Wyton

Kenilworth hosted their first Sunday match of the season on Sunday 22nd April, with Houghton and Wyton the visitors for a forty over a side friendly.

Home captain Sam Leach (yes again) opted to bat first for the first go at the Warwick Road ground of 2018.
Opening pair, Jorjeet Singh and the experienced Ant Kerry put on 33 for the first wicket, before Singh was bowled for 22, Kerry departed the same way soon after for 13, both batsmen being deceived by young spinner Purse, who finished with tidy figures of 3 for 22 off eight overs.

Young Elliott Haynes-Sorrell continued his good start to the new season, along with Danny Boneham, who made 19, the pair put on 38 for the third wicket, but from 94 for 3 after 22 overs, Kenilworth lost there way, slipping to 115 for 7 when Sorrell was out for 37. Eventually the home side were bowled out for just 128 in the 38th over of 40. Along with Purse taking three wickets, Wood also took three wickets, with 3 for 28.

Visitors Houghton and Wyton made a steady start to their reply as the home sides bowlers struggled to find the right lines and lengths.

When the skipper chose to see if spin could make any inroads into the visitors batting line up, that did the trick, as Jorjeet Singh struck the first blow, Singh finished with an economic 1 for 14 off his eight overs, he was replaced by fellow spinning all rounder Darius Potten-Ravenshad, he was quickly into action taking two quick wickets, having 2 for 24 off six overs. But opening bat Hudson stood firm for the visitors, along with the aggressive batting of Pagessi, who finished unbeaten on 39, despite being put down three times in the outfield, Hudson unbeaten on 28 not out, Houghton winning by seven wickets, ending on 129 for 3, reaching their target with ten overs to spare.

Kenilworth always struggled to contain the visitors after posting an under par score, but those that played over the weekend will have been pleased to get their seasons underway.
