Chris Prophet hits unbeaten century

In Kenilworth’s only match of the weekend after all the League matches had been washed out, Chris Prophet hit a sparkling unbeaten century in Kenilworth’s 40 overs a side friendly match against Olton on Sunday. Yet his efforts were not enough to guide the Sunday XI to victory as the side ended 40 runs short of Olton’s score of 213-7.

Prophet hit 106 not out with 10 boundaries and two sixes as he shared in a 57 run opening partnership with Tom Anscombe 20 and then in an unbroken and energetic  109 run 3rd wicket partnership with youngster Dan Horner who chipped in with 26 not out as the side had to settle on 173-2 at stumps.

Earlier, Olton’s Will Rigg hit 77 (8 x4, 1 x 6) as he and Harry Brookes 31 put on 95 runs for their 2nd wicket whilst Gary Hawkins made 64 (8 x 4, 1 x 6) in mid order to set the stiff target. The wickets were shared by 5 Kenilworth bowlers,  with slow bowler Andy Smith claiming 3-48 at the death, whilst Russell Watson took 1-25, Jorjeet Singh 1-35, Jonny Mortlock 1-37  and George Webb 1-42. Olton benefitted from a few spilled catches that turned out to be crucial missed chances for Kenilworth but keeper Horner took a sharp stumping and a catch behind the sticks in an entertaining match despite the end result for the Sunday XI.
